that if i were to enter a competition of being a disappointment, i would come in second, because of how much of a disappointment i am
Good luck everybody. May your Questionable tags be replaced by Healthy, and all your cute moves pay off.
With all major releases being out of the way, which games disappointed you the most (did not live up to expectations) and why? Also which games surprised you, where you had basically no expectations at all?
The disappointment for me - I gotta say it's Borderlands 3. I bought Borderlands 2 only this year (with all story DLC), completed all three difficulties and I bloody loved the game, which made me hungry for more Borderlands. Sadly BL3 turned out a complete and utter flop for me personally - terrible and annoying antagonists, quests seemed very boring - perhaps due to weaker writing and forgettable characters and finally I did find loot and gear progression to be boring honestly. The only positive was more impactful gunplay - but other than that it was just worse than BL2 in every single way.
And the surprise - probably Control. After watching trailers, it seemed not interesting at all and it didn't manage to raise any expectations. However having nothing to play after dry summer period I risked getting it after seeing decent review scores and was really pleasantly surprised. It was nothing like trailers were insinuating - it had a lot more action with fancy physics and far greater intrigue the they set it in those trailers. It also happens that I like weird, twisted and mysterious games and it turned out to be exactly that. If only it had better written character.. But still had a blast with it nonetheless.
Look, this isn't really the ending I want to see, and think we all agree. But there's a very good case that the show ending is the only ending the series will ever see for many, many years. So it's especially disappointing how little we actually learned lore-wise this season. There's still maybe room for a few minutes to cover up these topics on Sunday, but who are we kidding? All this shit is probably on the cutting room floor somewhere. And D&D definitely do not have the answers.
Now I understand a fantasy series doesn't need to answer all the questions and some are better off as enigmatic mysteries. I don't need to know what is up with Asshai, it's scarier that way, or what the Drowned God is. But really, there's some fundamental things that shouldn't remain fucking Tom Bombadils.
So like, just to review this season:
I guess we'll always have the spin-offs to watch... Ugh. This list made me really depressed, actually.

I loved Lane's character! She was a badass and had big dreams of becoming a Rockstar. Instead, the writers make her marry Zach, who by the way is so stupid and arrogant and annoying, and then make her get married, and then have children. She should've had that Rockstar ending and becoming famous and following her dream and then maybe getting married later in life and having children. We never get a huge storyline with Lane in it and in the end she is just kinda forgotten.
So I only ever played the first game myself, but the enormous hype surrounding this game for years has been unavoidable
and yet here we are with it actually out now and I've seen almost nothing of it. RE2remake sold fewer copies and yet I see it discussed and meme'd to hell and back everywhere. But the game people have been waiting an eternity for comes out and I haven't heard a peep. Most i've got was when I asked my friend how it was and all she said was "its ok".
So is it a disappointment, but its also not exactly bad, so theres nothing to really talk about?
Welcome to /r/movies Best of 2019 Threads! Here is the schedule for our five days of Best Ofs.
So what film was the biggest disappointment for you this year? It may not even be the worst film you saw, but it's definitely the one you had big hopes for and really let you down. Also please explain why and don't just put a title.
You maybe thinking "Cats, really?" but think about it:
-Based on one of the longest running Broadway shows ever
-The director's last movie musical, Les Miserables, got tons of Oscar and Golden Globes Nominations and even WINS
-It had an A-list cast, including Jennifer Hudson, whose last big musical won her an Oscar when her only claim to fame was being an American Idol contestant
-Not only did it have Jennifer Hudson but it had her singing Memory of all songs, which in and of itself sounds like the soundtrack is going to be a hit
And then they fucked that all up by going with that horrible visual style. It might've been a disappointment even if they had gone with the regular cat makeup, especially if they were going up against Rise of Skywalker, but it was definitely the straw that broke the camel's back if nothing else
